Introduction: Knowing God Through WORDsearch™
Knowing God Means Experiencing His Revealed Presence
Knowing God — receiving a revelation of God’s presence — is the most profound revealDefinition of “reveal”: To reveal something means to uncover a thing or an event, or to make it known. To reveal someone means to declare or proclaim something fresh, important, or unknown about that person.God reveals Himself through His Word, relationships, observations, recognitions, understanding, and discovery. We come to know Him through His care, wisdom, counsel, and presence. of all. God promises to reveal His name to all His people. Why is that important? The supreme Creator and Ruler of the universe chooses to reveal Himself so His people will know HimThe Lord says, “I will reveal my name to my people, and they will come to know its power.
Then at last they will recognize that I am the One who speaks to them.”Isaiah 52:6 NLT, and thereby, come to discern and experience His presence, character, ways, and purposes.
What difference will God’s revealed presence make in a person’s life? The Bible offers many examples to help you grasp how a revelation of God’s presence can change your life. Here are three historic illustrations:
- God revealed Himself to Moses. Moses responded in awe and obedience“One day Moses was tending the flock of his father-in-law, Jethro, the priest of Midian…. There the angel of the LORD appeared to him in a blazing fire from the middle of a bush. Moses stared in amazement. Though the bush was engulfed in flames, it didn’t burn up….” “When the LORD saw Moses coming to take a closer look, God called to him from the middle of the bush, ‘Moses! Moses’!; ‘Here I am’! Moses replied. ‘Do not come any closer,’ the LORD warned. ‘Take off your sandals, for you are standing on holy ground. I am the God of your father’s, the God of Abraham, the God of Isaac, and the God of Jacob.’ When Moses heard this, he covered his face because he was afraid to look at God.”Then the LORD declared His plan to send Moses to rescue His people from Egyptian oppression and lead them to their own fertile and spacious land. “But Moses protested, ‘If I go to the people of Israel and tell them, the God of your ancestors has sent me to you, they will ask me, What is his name?’ . . . God replied to Moses, ‘I AM WHO I AM. Say this to the people of Israel: I AM has sent me to you.’ . . . ‘This is my eternal name, my name to remember for all generations.’”“. . . So Moses took his wife and sons, put them on a donkey, and headed back to the land of Egypt. In his hand he carried the staff of God.”(emphasis added)Exodus 3:1-6; 11-15; 4:20 NLT — Moses was changed, and a nation’s destiny changed.
- God revealed Himself to Job. Job responded with awe and humility“I know that you can do anything, and no one can stop you. I had only heard about you before, but now I have seen you with my own eyes. I take back everything I said, and I sit in dust and ashes to show my repentance.”(emphasis added)Job 42:2, 5-6 NLT — Job was changed, and his family, friends, and circumstances changed.
- God revealed Jesus as Messiah to Peter. Peter responded in awe and in truthWhen Jesus came to the region of Caesarea Philippi, he asked his disciples, “Who do people say the Son of Man is?” They replied, “Some say John the Baptist; others say Elijah; and still others, Jeremiah or one of the prophets.” “But what about you?” he asked. “Who do you say I am?” Simon Peter answered, “You are the Christ, the Son of the living God.” Jesus replied, “Blessed are you, Simon son of Jonah, for this was not revealed to you by man, but by my Father in heaven.(emphasis added)Matthew 16:13-17 NIV — Peter was changed, and his inaugural leadership influenced the Body of Christ.
